About Icelandic Soroptimists
The Soroptimist movement was brought to Iceland in the year 1959. The first club was chartered on September 19th this same year by Ulla av Buren from Sweden. Fourteen years passed until the next club was chartered and then in Hafnafjörður and Garðabær. Following that the number of clubs increased rapidly. The Soroptimist Union of Iceland was established in June 1974. Today the clubs in Iceland are 16 around the country.
Icelandic Soroptimists have supported Soroptimist International projects from the beginning but they have also participated in many good projects within the country.
Information about the current president of the Icelandic Union and other members of the board can be found here (in icelandic).
